It was a hard hit when her chin slammed down on the board. No doubt, it would bruise later but luckily she was a fast healer. What she wasn't prepared for was Ashton trying to catch her as she came up from the water. She felt a warm arm curl around her waist and it felt so good that she wanted to push herself up against him and stay there. But of course, she remembered herself and even as she savored the feel of his hand on her flesh with nothing between them, she glanced up only to find him swallowing and releasing his hold. She felt a quiver of disappointment run down her spine as the cold water hit her where his hand used to be but she brushed it off as a shiver from the cold water in general and focused back on getting on the board. As his finger curled under her chin, she inhaled at his touch, her gaze finding his as he lifted her face. When he asked if she was alright, she smirked. "Never better. I've taken harder hits from a rabbit." Hey, those back feet hurt when they got a good kick in. She returned to the board and started heaving herself up, feeling jovial the minute her stomach hit the board. She did it! She flattened herself out on it, not sure if she could trust herself to do anything more than that anyway. As she turned her head to the side, she could have sworn she saw Ashton's eyes wandering down her body but then he could just be making sure she was positioned right or something. He was too uptight for anything else, right? He nodded when she exclaimed, saying that she was going to paddle past the waves now. She scowled. "How? I can't hold onto the board and paddle at the same time, silly." She said it jokingly but her gaze was perplexed. She felt comforted when he said that he was going to be right there with her. As he started guiding the board further out, she felt her nerves kicking in. The water was getting really deep. She could tell by watching the level rise on his chest. His very muscular defined chest. She was almost mesmerized before she remembered what she was supposed to be doing. When he told her to sit up on the board, her eyes widened. "R-really? Like right now?" She glanced down at the board as if questioning if it would behave. Slowly but surely, she swallowed and started to pry her chest from the board. Her arms were shaking a little as she moved her legs more up under her. The board tried to wobble and she gasped, holding on tightly in case it tried to throw her. Once she felt righted, she slowly positioned herself further back until she was successfully sitting on the board, her legs dangling off the sides into the water. She let out a long breath before turning her gaze to him. "That was hard! This thing has a mind of its own." She let her feet swing in the water and looked around. "Do you do this a lot? Surfing?" She figured she might as well use the time to get to know him a little better. |
