Arlo James
See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch
Damon, he had decided, seemed to like covens. Arlo watching him warily as that car rolled through the streets, his eyes narrowing slightly upon the other man as Damon attempted to make some justification for those vampires' gatherings, Arlo's own experience with them was decidedly unpleasant. Hypocrites. The lot of them. Happy to prey on those mortals and drain their blood from them and yet cringing at the idea of just that happening to themselves. He never hurt them, never killed them and yet his very existence seemed to repulse them. As if he was some walking demon deceiving those vampiric laws that forbade them from feeding on one another. His presence was never tolerated much less accepted, he'd lost count of the towns and cities he'd been run out off by those covens Damon spoke about now. He supposed, really, he'd never considered the positives of those covens and yet he'd never been given the chance too. Arlo sighing softly at last, the man so finally beginning to shift those shields, if only slightly, after all- Damon didn't seem like a too-bad kinda guy. At least, he wasn't about to murder him and that was something right?
"It would be nice, I can't say you're not right. You make a good case anyway. Covens don't want me though, bud. What coven wants a vampire that wants to feed on its members? There aren't many of my kind left anymore."
Not enough to make their own Coven anyway, at least, not in this city or even this country as far as Arlo knew. Outside of Patrick he'd never even met another like him and now even Patrick was gone. His gaze shifted back to Damon as the other vampire offered even that hint off his own past, surprise briefly touching his features. Damon, after all, seemed to almost enjoy being a vampire, to learn that he hadn't always been quite that....embracing off the lifestyle was surprising and yet even Arlo was willing to admit he wasn't sure he'd ever have forgiven his brother- or that chick who sounded like she was the reason for it all. That almost dry chuckle that resounded from within the other vampires throat assuring him that maybe Damon wasn;t exactly over it even after all this time, the man apparently running from his humanity in some effort to remind himself not to forgive his brother. Was he still alive then? What about that girl? Arlo half inclined to wonder about the both of them and yet maybe asking wasn't the best idea. Might make Damon cranky. He didn't really want to do that. Arlo instead making some attempt then, to explain what he was in a way he never really had before, one hand running through his hair with that effort of attempting to make the other man understand what most hardly seemed capable of accepting. He didn't know why he was the way he was anymore then he knew why the sun rose every day. He just was. He'd spent years trying to understand and it had gotten him nowhere. Without his Maker he was....lost. Patrick had never finished teaching him and so here he was, fumbling about in some effort to survive and really, he'd made it this far at least. Arlo pausing then to glance towards the other man again, his blue eyes searching Damon's features for some hint the other man understood he didn't reject human blood through some misguided sense of justice. He simply wasn't designed to eat it.
He was wholly oblivious to the notion that Damon, perhaps, knew more then he said. That the older vampire had heard those legends of Crusniks, of their power and how they lived, Damon nodding at last. Arlo relaxing perhaps a little more when Damon didn't immediately make some effort stake him with something. The younger man nodding in response to those words. Cannibal worked. He'd been called that before. It made sense he supposed. That mention of his Maker seeing his features frown slightly once more before his shoulders shrugged, Arlo leaning back in the car then, resting one arm against the window in an entirely more casual fashion than anything else he'd done so far.
"Yeah, he was. I think that's how it passes. I mean, I've never heard of a regular vampire just suddenly becoming one or anything. I was just made this way I guess. Hey, your old, you know things. I have a question."
Maybe calling Damon 'old' wasn't exactly wat the other fellow had wanted to hear and yet thinking before he poke had never really been Arlo's strong point to begin with all the same. Having another vampire to talk to was a luxury he was also rarely afforded, the man not willing to let this one pass by too easily.
"When it comes to powers- is it, I dunno, unusual to inherit one from your Maker?"
He'd never thought to ask Patrick before. He hadn't cared back then and yet over the past few days that had become one hell of a question, his thoughts momentarily turned back towards attempting to explain just how his own efforts to feed worked, that venom he possessed different to most other vampires. That pleasurable sedative rendering even the most powerful vampires almost helpless to him. A grin pulling across his lips at Damon's words, his own eyes rolling slightly in good humour.
"Truth be told, your boy Lucas didn't get to enjoy much at all, he kinda fell asleep. Weaker vampires can't hold out against it and sometimes just end up unconscious. The stronger ones end up sedated and happy and really high normally. Makes it easy for me though."
What did it matter if Damon knew the truth? At least he knew Lucas hadn't come to any real harm. The dude was just unconscious and probably a bit light headed and hungry from blood loss. Arlo hadn't taken all that much from him. That idea of desiccation however saw his features scowl again. Alright, so he hadn't known he could do that. Damon admitting it had happened to him before, Arlo feeling his stomach almost turn at the thought. Maybe he'd have to be more careful of that. Any ideas of desiccation however all but flew from his mind the moment they pulled up outside that strip club, a grin working its way across his features then. Arlo swinging out of the car with considerable enthusiasm now to come to Damon's side, the man more than willing to see how Damon 'hunted' if it included girls! The bouncer suddenly stepping in front of him saw Arlo jerk to a halt, his own gaze glancing at the man. He hadn't been stopped going into a club in years, did he really look that young? He was over twenty one! Arlo just about to argue that point and try and find some semblance of non-existent ID in his wallet when Damon, well, did the 'eye-thing'.
"You are really good at that. Does that work on everyone?"
He asked, oblivious to the fact it had already been used on him, Arlo following Damon into that club then, the bouncer rushing off to see to accommodating his new VIP's, Arlo grinning almost readily once more. He'd never been in a place like this before. He knew about them of course, hell, he'd ended up with personal strip teases after most gigs- but this was something else. His features shifted into that look of utter awe as his gaze shifted from one thing to the next. That low whistle of appreciation slipping from his lips.
"Alright bud, maybe I misjudged you a little. I can admit when I'm wrong. These girls, are they gunna let you bite them? Is that what you come here for or is this just for a show?"
Arlo hardly found he cared which one it was. Girls was never a bad thing.
