The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

He seemed to think it was funny when she said that most people found her too hard to handle. He said that he handled bulls and stud colts and her brow rose. She had to think back to her Western movies, the parts of them she'd actually managed to sit through, that is. "You mean like cows and horses, right?" She hoped she was at least in the general ballpark of what he was talking about. She'd hate to sound like an idiot every time she opened her mouth around him. She wondered what all he must have experienced so far in life. It seemed his upbringing was a lot different than her own and she was curious of anything different. She wanted to know about everything, after all. This human world was still so overwhelming to her sometimes, so easy to get lost in. When she teased him about calling her by her last name, he seemed to take the hint and he didn't seem too offended about it either, saying he would call her Malia then. She beamed at him, much happier for that little change. He of course was curious of how little she knew about things like money so when he asked how she went for so long, she shrugged. "I wasn't human for the last 10 years of my life or so. I really don't know the timeline, but I know I don't really remember anything from my childhood, only being a coyote in the wild. I grew up with a pack. I didn't even know I could shift until a few months ago." She looked down at her drink then back up at him, raising a brow. "Wait, are you calling me old?" She thought that's what the phrase about being a spring chicken had to do with, saying someone wasn't young anymore, right? He seemed intrigued when she mentioned a pack and she wondered if he would ever be interested in something like that, joining a pack here in Sacrosanct. Of course this was only the first meeting and she didn't want to pressure him into anything. She was only looking for a friend, after all. She asked if he and his father were close and he nodded, saying they were. Malia smiled. "I'm sure he's proud to call you his son." It seemed like the polite thing to say. He seemed very level headed and put together after all. What father wouldn't be proud of that? And something told her he was probably missing his family too. She wondered if he had a lot of stories about his father and him growing up. What did they do together? Was his mother with him sometimes or did she do her own thing? Parents weren't really something Malia could relate to with anyone cause she didn't know hers. She had adoptive parents, sure, but she was always independant and they didn't really know what to do with her to begin with. They took care of the essentials like making sure she got food and had shelter but she learned to take care of herself pretty quickly so then they became more like silent guardians. It was something she would always regret is not knowing what could have been. As they danced, she could tell this wasn't really his scene. It made her wonder what brought him into a place like this to begin with but she had to be happy that at least it meant she got to meet him. When she asked how he usually let off steam, he said that he wrote novels or ran. She tilted her head. "Like books? Wow, you must be really smart." She couldn't help herself. After all, she didn't have the patience to learn how to read or write herself. He probably went to college like Miyako and took all those classes. Another thing she would never truly relate to. He said he ran too and she smirked. "In this form or your other? I like to hunt. It reminds me that there's still a dangerous animal inside, that I'm still me." She was curious as to what he shifted into. Would she ever find out? He was getting better at this whole dancing thing. Soon enough his hands were moving with her hips instead of bracing against them, his body much looser as he moved in tune to the rhythm. It made dancing so much more satisfying. But she couldn't help but wonder what he liked to do instead. Sure, she could dance all night but she wanted to try new things and who better to try them with than Ashton? She already felt so comfortable with him. He took her hand and led her away from the dance floor. She easily stepped into stride with him, curious of where he would take her. He stopped by the bar to pay the tab and she scowled as he left the money and walked away. She would never get that particular habit. Why waste money by leaving it for anyone to grab? But she turned her head back just in time to see the bartender snatch it up and put it in some drawer with lots of buttons to push and numbers. Looked confusing. Oh well. She shrugged it off and focused back on where they were going. They walked down the block and she was happy for the cool night air. It was relaxing. She smiled all the way and her eyes lit up as she saw the sign of the place they were walking into. "Never heard of any of this before. Is it fun?" He told her they were going to skate and asked about her shoe size. She blinked at him, puzzled, before she reached down and took her heels off, looking inside the shoe like Nadya had taught her. "That number. I think Nadya said I was an 8 or something like that." |
