no more terrors to keep me up at night

His chuckle brought goose bumps to her skin as he looked at her and when he said her name, she felt her lips part and her eyes widen, waiting to see what he would say next. She didn't expect those next three words. She inhaled sharply, her hand coming up to cover her heart as she stared at him for a moment, like she was waiting for the punch line or a laugh, anything to tell her he was joking. But he looked completely serious. "You...you're joking right?" She whispered in a stuttering voice. Then he mentioned things she'd never even heard of before. It sounded exotic and way above her league. Consorts? She tilted her head, lifting a brow in curiosity. "A consort? So that's like a girlfriend?" He talked of power but she wouldn't know what to do with that. She was still getting used to being able to defend herself, let alone have power over anyone else. It just sounded like a fairy tale from a book she might read. She searched his expression, wondering what else he might be hiding or just hadn't told her before. He did look the part of someone used to having power and prestige. He was so confident and well mannered. It only reminded her more how honored she should be that he would even take notice of her. And it terrified her thinking of when he might get bored of her and move on.
At least they moved onto safer subjects, like her lack of knowledge when it came to traveling. He was offering to show her anything and she didn't even know where to start. She felt like an idiot, so sheltered and ignorant of the world. What would he think of her? Would he eventually figure out he could do so much better than her? She had no idea what to say when he asked where she wanted to go so she changed the focus, asking where he liked to go. She should have known home would be his choice. She could tell by the longing in his gaze that he wanted nothing more than to be in Greece. Some day she'd love to go with him. She bet it was beautiful. Then he brought up Croatia and she smiled. "Sounds like a good place to start." She'd be happy to go anywhere with him. She looked forward to his commentary. Maybe he'd tell her stories of his experiences in the places they went. Maybe he'd know some people there and she would get to befriend them. She was desperate to be a part of his world, however she could.
When he talked to her about his plans with the Hunters and Werehorses, she tried to comfort him, telling him she was sure the Hunters would come to know it was for the best, no matter what. He took her hand and kissed it, telling her she was right and she beamed at him. His opinion meant so much to her. To think that her words mattered in anything serious was a great honor to her. As she looked around them, she was in awe of the effort he put into this date. It was breathtaking. He helped her out of the car and she took strength from his hand clasped around her own. It made her feel just a little more worthy to be at his side. He sat in the seat across from her, all poise and grace and power. It exuded from him. At his teasing comment, she giggled, her eyes twinkling at the mere thought. The man could practically do anything and take her breath away. She thanked her stars every night for having him in her life. She asked if he'd done anything like this before. He told her he recognized the chef's name. "So he's famous?" She prompted, curious to find out what she could about this place. She asked what was good and he mentioned lamb. Her mouth watered at the very thought. She knew lamb meat to be especially tender. Then he mentioned ravioli and she smirked. "What's life without a little risk though?" She lifted a brow.
